Extractions

In dental language pulling a tooth is called a dental extraction. Dentistry @ 5306 Creditview provides patients with most oral surgery services including dental extraction and wisdom teeth removal.

The “pulling” of a tooth is called an extraction and it is often performed on a dying tooth that cannot be treated. Sometimes a root canal can remove the dead material and nerve, allowing you to retain the tooth.

However, if a root canal is not possible, the tooth will need to be pulled. Extraction may also be used to remove impacted teeth such as wisdom teeth.

The process of an extraction begins by numbing the area where an extraction will take place. It's important to wait and allow the numbness to sink in fully. While the dental extraction patient is seated and completely numbed, the dentist checks the depth of the anesthesia by making a tiny incision around the tooth. Once it is established that the patient is completely numb, the incision is lengthened and the gum tissue is tenderly pulled away from the tooth. If any of the surrounding bone is in the way, it is then removed gently. Also, and only if needed, the tooth is then softly divided into pieces and the pieces are then removed. Sutures/stitches are then put into place so that the gum tissue positions back into it's proper place correctly.
